These are best for:

- Quick research tasks
- Content creation (PRDs, strategy docs)
2. No-Code Agent Builders
There is a new class of tools that you must know. Tools like Zapier and Lindy offer where you can do things like connecting your Gmail to Claude.
Be sure to explore these for:
- Email triage
- Competitor monitoring
- Automated data reporting
3. Developer-First Platforms
All the tools you've heard like CrewAI, Langchain, and Autogen are great frameworks for developers. Think of them as the React/Node for agents.
They're for:
- Customer-facing agents
- Deep system integrations
- Complex, proprietary business logic
4. Specialized Agent Apps
Tools like Cursor, Otter, and Jasper are specialized agent apps. They're supported by complex business logic to do one task really well.

Feels like they straddle Specialized Agent Apps (since they’re built for a narrow use case like prospecting or triage) and Developer-First Platforms (since most require some level of backend integration to really add value).

An AI agent can be understood as a computer program that can perform tasks or make decisions on its own, based on its goals and the information it receives.
An AI agent will primarily have three main components - Perception, Brain and Action.
These three components work together: the perception gathers information, the brain figures out what to do, and the action carries out the plan. This process allows AI agents to perform a wide variety of tasks, from answering questions to controlling complex systems.
The diagram illustrates the general workflow of an AI agent, which typically involves two core components: intra-execution and interaction.
The intra-execution component focuses on the processes within a single AI agent and comprises three main modules: perception, brain, and action, as dicussed above. The workflow begins with user input that goes through an input formatter tool as part of the perception module.
The input is then embedded, which is followed by reasoning and planning performed by the brain, which is where an LLM is used to analyse and deduce information and to devise strategies for specific objectives.
This results in subtasks, which are then executed by the action module, which may include calling external tools. The process iterates, moving between the brain and the action modules, until a final outcome is reached. The agent also interacts with its memory and environment.
Let's take a real-life example to see how AI agents work. Let's say you need Nike shoes for running in under $500 and the color should be Blue. The AI agent would break down the user's request for Nike running shoes under $500 in blue into structured data. It would then use reasoning and planning to identify relevant shoe models, gather details, and evaluate options against the criteria. The agent would execute subtasks like querying e-commerce APIs and reviewing customer feedback, iterating between its brain and action modules until recommending the optimal shoe. Throughout, the agent would leverage its memory and environment to fulfill the user's requirements efficiently.

As someone with 0 technical background, I've found the best way to understand AI Agents is to build on concepts I already grasp.
Level 1️⃣ - Large Language Models
Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are passive systems that generate outputs based on inputs but can't access external information or take autonomous actions.
Note: Technically, ChatGPT is an application built on top of LLMs, but we can simplify for now.
Level 2️⃣ - AI Workflows
AI Workflows combine LLMs with external tools (like calendar access or weather data). They follow rigid, predefined paths set by humans, who remain the decision-makers.
Level 3️⃣ - AI Agents
Here, the LLM itself becomes the decision-maker. It autonomously reasons about problems, selects appropriate tools, and iterates until it achieves its goals.
Here’s an (extremely) oversimplified example:
1️⃣ ChatGPT can draft an email requesting a coffee chat, but if you ask "When is that coffee chat?" it fails because it has no access to your calendar.
2️⃣ Give ChatGPT access to your Google Calendar and it becomes an AI workflow.
IMPORTANT: ChatGPT didn't make that decision - you did.
3️⃣ A workflow evolves into an AI Agent when the LLM independently (1) Reasons: "To find the user's events, I need calendar access" and (2) Acts: "I'll connect to their Google Calendar API."

"text": "I really like your breakdown of AI concepts for non-technical people! As an AI consultant, I'd add that AI agents are essentially what happens when we give AI systems both decision-making authority AND the ability to act on those decisions.
Think of it as the difference between:
. Asking a friend for advice (LLM)
. Giving a friend a specific to-do list (Workflow)
. Telling a friend "Handle this for me" and they figure out what needs doing (Agent)
The exciting (and challenging) part about agents is they represent that shift from AI as a tool we directly control to AI as a collaborator that can take initiative within boundaries we set. Your coffee chat example captures this perfectly - the agent doesn't just respond to commands but proactively identifies what resources it needs to solve your problem.

The more we chase “smart tasks” without structure, the more we lose the plot. Developers are confused. “AI Architects” don’t exist. And agents are now doing things they were never cleared to do.

From what I’ve seen as a business ops specialist, these tend to be marketed toward business leaders as standalone products: “pay us, your IT team gives API access to CRM, and voilà, you’ve got an agent in your workflow.”
Feels like they straddle Specialized Agent Apps (since they’re built for a narrow use case like prospecting or triage) and Developer-First Platforms (since most require some level of backend integration to really add value).

An AI agent can be understood as a computer program that can perform tasks or make decisions on its own, based on its goals and the information it receives.
An AI agent will primarily have three main components - Perception, Brain and Action.
These three components work together: the perception gathers information, the brain figures out what to do, and the action carries out the plan. This process allows AI agents to perform a wide variety of tasks, from answering questions to controlling complex systems.
The diagram illustrates the general workflow of an AI agent, which typically involves two core components: intra-execution and interaction.
The intra-execution component focuses on the processes within a single AI agent and comprises three main modules: perception, brain, and action, as dicussed above. The workflow begins with user input that goes through an input formatter tool as part of the perception module.
The input is then embedded, which is followed by reasoning and planning performed by the brain, which is where an LLM is used to analyse and deduce information and to devise strategies for specific objectives.
This results in subtasks, which are then executed by the action module, which may include calling external tools. The process iterates, moving between the brain and the action modules, until a final outcome is reached. The agent also interacts with its memory and environment.
Let's take a real-life example to see how AI agents work. Let's say you need Nike shoes for running in under $500 and the color should be Blue. The AI agent would break down the user's request for Nike running shoes under $500 in blue into structured data. It would then use reasoning and planning to identify relevant shoe models, gather details, and evaluate options against the criteria. The agent would execute subtasks like querying e-commerce APIs and reviewing customer feedback, iterating between its brain and action modules until recommending the optimal shoe. Throughout, the agent would leverage its memory and environment to fulfill the user's requirements efficiently.

As someone with 0 technical background, I've found the best way to understand AI Agents is to build on concepts I already grasp.
Level 1️⃣ - Large Language Models
Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are passive systems that generate outputs based on inputs but can't access external information or take autonomous actions.
Note: Technically, ChatGPT is an application built on top of LLMs, but we can simplify for now.
Level 2️⃣ - AI Workflows
AI Workflows combine LLMs with external tools (like calendar access or weather data). They follow rigid, predefined paths set by humans, who remain the decision-makers.
Level 3️⃣ - AI Agents
Here, the LLM itself becomes the decision-maker. It autonomously reasons about problems, selects appropriate tools, and iterates until it achieves its goals.
Here’s an (extremely) oversimplified example:
1️⃣ ChatGPT can draft an email requesting a coffee chat, but if you ask "When is that coffee chat?" it fails because it has no access to your calendar.
2️⃣ Give ChatGPT access to your Google Calendar and it becomes an AI workflow.
IMPORTANT: ChatGPT didn't make that decision - you did.
3️⃣ A workflow evolves into an AI Agent when the LLM independently (1) Reasons: "To find the user's events, I need calendar access" and (2) Acts: "I'll connect to their Google Calendar API."

"text": "I really like your breakdown of AI concepts for non-technical people! As an AI consultant, I'd add that AI agents are essentially what happens when we give AI systems both decision-making authority AND the ability to act on those decisions.
Think of it as the difference between:
. Asking a friend for advice (LLM)
. Giving a friend a specific to-do list (Workflow)
. Telling a friend "Handle this for me" and they figure out what needs doing (Agent)
The exciting (and challenging) part about agents is they represent that shift from AI as a tool we directly control to AI as a collaborator that can take initiative within boundaries we set. Your coffee chat example captures this perfectly - the agent doesn't just respond to commands but proactively identifies what resources it needs to solve your problem.
Great explanation that really helps demystify where this technology is heading!
